My two little girls hate wearing sunhats, but they love playing dress up.

I thought “Hmmmm…”

You know how a great idea can just pop into your head? That’s what happened one day when I was trying to get my two little girls, Hayden and Stella, ready for a trip to the beach.

 Applying sunscreen to their scalps was always a hassle, but I had to do it because (1) Science tells us one bad sunburn as a child increases melanoma cancer risk later on in life (2) they’d always take their sunhats off as fast as I could put them on (which also added stress to a day that should be carefree).

If only they’d just keep their sunhats on!

Then out of the blue came an “aha” moment.

That’s when I wondered: why is it that they object to wearing their sunhats but are eager to put on their crowns and other costume hats?

That question quickly led to the creation of our first prototype: a pink sunhat with a crown attached. Since the sunhat was now a costume, the girls clamored to wear it–and I knew I was onto something. From there I was inspired to design a full look, with a swimsuit to go along with the hat.

Thus was born Tiny Crowns™.

Tiny Crowns became the first company to combine sun protection with a child’s love for playing dress-up.

We called this new category “Swim Costumes™” and the brand “Tiny Crowns Swim Costumes™.” 

And because keeping kids safe is our top priority, we designed full coverage rash-guard swimsuits (we call them Funguards™) which are always UPF 50 and color fast. That way, kids get the fun they want and the protection they need.
